Myths About Solar Panels

By: Soleira

Despite solar energy is becoming a global option for electricity production, there are still many people that refuse to take this alternative, due to many reasons that in most cases are do not interfere with solar systems. The main reason why people are taking negative positions against solar panels is because of a lack of information. This is why we are showing you the myths and facts about solar panels:

Myth 1: Solar panels don’t work in cold temperatures

This is probably the biggest myth about solar panels. It is wrongly believed that solar panels must be in warm environments to increase their efficiency levels. Meanwhile, if they are placed in a cold environment they won’t have a good performance.

Fact: Solar panels have a better performance in cold temperatures, as long as they are receiving sunlight. Due to their conductivity increases in cold environments, meaning that the electricity produced by the panel runs faster. If the panel gets too hot, the flow of electricity will be reduced.

Myth 2: If I get solar panels installed at home, I will need a tracking system that follows the sun angle.

Fact: A responsible installation company will take care of putting your panels on a position where they get the most sunlight possible. This means that you don’t actually need to buy a tracking system, all you need to do is to choose wisely the installation company.

Myth 3: If I live in a cloudy or snowy area my investment in solar panels will not be worthy.

Fact: Performance levels of the panels can indeed get reduced in snowy or cloudy areas. But this doesn’t mean they won’t produce electricity, they will but in a minor quantity. To help reduce this issue, what installers usually do is putting the panels on an angle that snowflakes fall from the surface when they accumulate. The same with raindrops.

Myth 4: Solar panels are not visually aesthetic.

Fact: In case you don’t want solar panels on your roof, there are other options you can take. If your garden is big enough and it also receives good sunlight, you can ask your installer to place the panels there. But if this option is not able for you, you can search for alternatives, such as painted or black panels.

Myth 5: The maintenance of the panels is too expensive

Fact: Nothing could be further from the truth! Solar panels are the best option to economize as they require very little maintenance, and there’s no need to spend a dollar on it since you can do it by yourself. All you need to do is clean the particles that could be placed on the panel surface once or twice a year.

As you can see, having solar panels installed at home is not only a great opportunity to save money but also it’s a very practical and simple way to get electricity. If you are still full of doubt about going solar, don’t hesitate to contact our consultants, they will be happy to assist you.
